Our team member, Thomas Feliciani, has been recognised as one of the winners of the 7th edition of the Seed Projects for Interdisciplinary Research, a University of Coimbra (UC) initiative supported by the Santander Portugal Foundation.
As part of the Science & Technology Week this November, Alfredo Sánchez-Tójar, EXCELScIOR PI, visited a local primary school - Jardim-Escola João de Deus de Coimbra - to deliver a hands-on activity exploring bird beak evolution.
On November 19, BrainHack Donostia featured a keynote lecture by EXCELScIOR team member Inês Almeida, presenting the TREASURE institutional pilot project.
On November 19, 2025, the Munin Conference on Scholarly Publishing, held in Tromsø (Norway), featured a keynote lecture by EXCELScIOR team leader Tracey Weissgerber. Her keynote, titled “Reproducibility starts with methods: Building a culture of openness and reuse” addressed one of the central challenges in modern research: ensuring that scientific methods are transparent, reusable, and reliably reported.
Last week, our team co-coordinated the course “Experimental Research Design & Responsible Research Practices,” organized within the Doctoral Program in Experimental Biology and Biomedicine (PDBEB) and the International Doctoral Program in Integrative Neurosciences (idpIN), under the EXCELScIOR educational portfolio at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, University of Coimbra.
Two members of the EXCELScIOR team, Tracey Weissgerber, Team Leader, and Paulo Oliveira, Project Coordinator, have been included in the World’s Top 2% Most Cited Scientists list for 2024.

On October 20, 2025, the University of Coimbra hosted the Open Science Communities at UC 2025, a one-day event dedicated to sharing projects and initiatives that promote Open Science and related practices, while fostering connections among researchers across UC.
From September 23–27, 2025, EXCELScIOR researcher Inês Almeida, is participating in the ReData Open Science Train-the-Trainer Bootcamp, an intensive program designed to train professionals in delivering Open Science practices.
